A Song Just For You

Welcome! Music is one of the most intimate things we can share with others. Maybe you even remember the first song that made you think it was written just for you. Well, now you can use a simple AI tool to make a song just for you and your kids. It might not be as cool as a Raffi concert, but it could be just as memorable. This week, you can turn your child into DJ Khaled because all you’ll hear is a request for “Another one.”

Activity of the week

Generate a custom-made song just for you and your kiddo:

Step 1: Jump onto Suno AI’s website, and create a free account.

Step 2: You and your child come up with 1 or 2 topics for songs you’d like to create. It could be about your favorite food, character, place to visit, or anything else.

Step 3: After logging into Suno AI’s website, go to the “Create” page, and in the “Song Description” box, enter the description of the song you want to generate. Here’s an example of a song description: “An upbeat kid-friendly song about Superman going apple picking.”

Step 4: Click the “Create” button, and play your song once it’s done.

Step 5: Dance along until you’re ready to make another song. Songs you create are automatically added to your Suno AI playlist.

Book of the week

Wild Symphony by Dan Brown (yes, the same Dan Brown who wrote The Da Vinci Code)

This book has everything needed to pique kids’ interest in music. Animals with musical talent? Check. A hidden message in each page? Yep. Life lessons on each page? Sure does. An app with accompanying music? Why not.

Stat of the week

Thinking about tomorrow, today

According to a study conducted by the University of Geneva, “children who undergo musical training have better verbal memory, second language pronunciation accuracy, reading ability and executive functions. The degree of observed structural and functional adaptation in the brain correlates with intensity and duration of practice.”

The effects on cognitive development depend on the timing of musical initiation due to sensitive periods during development, so early introduction to musical training could have an outsized impact on kids.

It’s not always easy or possible to get kids started on learning musical instruments. Getting them exposed to music is where you can start. Take off the headphones and take out the speakers.
